storm coast

you were in my dreams last night
ensuring that I greeted the dawn
with sleepless eyes and restless
outside I felt the hurricane breeze
warm and tropical and steady
portending the great cataclysm
for we chose the storm coast
and we have learned the signs
the blood warm swimming
the evenings of spider lightning
dark rolling clouds and low skies
vast anvil mountains moving distant
and you visiting my slumber
downtown full of the well heeled
the meeting I wasn't dressed for
trapped outside looking in
the strange messages called
over unsuspected loudspeakers
knowing you are close
but unable to find you
and all of the time knowing
storm coast waters are coming
