I wrote a book on the issue above long before this article was written. It is essentially about the lack of side vision, the inability of man to envision flank attacks (individually or globally) as a result of bilateral forward looking vision which was apparently important to ancient apes as well as modern ones, probably originating in the need to jump into trees and being carried down for better or for worse.
Any country able to see from side to side (like China, apparently) has a tremendous advantage.
This will not, hopefully, come off as an anti this or that rant, but is instead to be a collection of notes to go into china's weaponized economy if that second edition is ever written. It contains the solutions to the Western Problem with China, but it did not sell or publish to rave reviews.
This is written after the senseless, truly to the definition, "without sense" attack on the college in Kenya which left 148 students killed by 4 extremists. It is couched as a Muslim vs Christian attack and to some extent it was, but it is also about two warring factions in two separate countries fighting for dominance and for independence. It is as if someone thought that educators did not have enough to worry about with what students do to themselves.
Anyone who reads my science, the better of my diversions from fiction which seems to be the only thing that really brings me sense of peace rather than utility, knows that I'm not opposed to the idea of god (or gods) but that I think organized religion has no basis in science while god might.
In short, I find all organized religions questionable as they seek to increase their regidity or the level of control based on increased ritualistic behaviors. That the warring factions all stem from the same basic principles makes them all the more questionable. They all stem from a set of rituals put in place to establish a quasi-militaristic control required by the circumstances that gave birth to Judiasm (probably oppression of a near slave class, but as the muslim religion shows, birth can originate in an attack on a few well placed individuals.
The militaristic ends were perhaps best focused by the controls, near slavery in the case of women, placed by the Muslim religion which was most recently a religion of conquest and therefore more closely tied historically to maintain a rigid militaristic control on the followers. The hiding of the military aspects behind religious dogma is one of the great strengths of religion. Facism is perhaps the most obvious alternate approach where the religious aspects are done away with altogether while maintaining the militaristic aspects. A close second is the Chinese system which ultimately may prove a better platform or dominance or freedom than the American system as shown by the lead in article to this post and done in more detail and better in my opinion at least in China's Weaponized Economy. It does appear, sadly, that the leadership system in the United States is so corrupted, probably by the absence of term limits among other less obvious problems, that it will fall to China's system in the near future but how large or permanent a fall remains to be seen.
In examining the problems of east, west and far east it is important to note that there are economic wars, clearly being lost by the west, and what is largely a war of distraction but which is an equally important war of culture. The Muslims started out as a religion of conquest, but success originally made them the religion of science and culture. They saved the knowledge of the Greeks just as the Greeks saved the knowledge of the Sumarians, both partially, but at least it was saved. This was done while the Christians were doing the middle age equivalent of burning books. It s important to understand how the some Muslims became the book burners of the world (along with a smaller group of Christians). The reason appears fairly clear although the mechanism less so. Knowledge is contrary to war and to some extent contrary to organized religion. The more fundamentalist the religion (at least Judeo-Christian-Muslim) the more it concentrates on the militaristic aspects of control and the more adverse it is to outside influences that would weaken this control, i.e. intelligent discourse. In the course of a war, the last thing the generals want is for the troops to apply logic to the undertaking.
So in order to have a proper war of east vs west, the radicals of both side seek a war of extermination or, alternatively, a war of subjugation. Why does the population at large go along? First, if you're facing death, it doesn't make a lot of sense to cling to your religion. Soldiers don't generally believe in the rigid, mindless following of orders and the taking of innocent lives, but the indoctrination of control, the same that is adopted so professionally by the Muslim religion (as well as its predecessors Judiasm and Christianity, but not so obviously) requires blind adherence to orders and the order of the day is domination and death to the infidel, whoever the infidel happens to be according to the religion at hand.
The most obvious ways to win the war are either to wipe out the other religion to a greater extent, the historical precedent, or to educate the population sufficiently so that they can judge for themselves whether their religion is the proper army to be a part of. Unfortunately, it is much easier to shoot someone than to educate someone. Worse still, one military (i.e. religions group) is hardly likely to use a system that would undermine their own authority. Oddly enough Fascism has as good a chance of surviving such a comparison of religious doctrines (or the Chinese system) since it strips away the veneer of religion retaining only the control aspects.
I believe we are only renting this space, the bacteria that come after us and feed on our carcasses will not care very much what we believed and they are as warlike in their own way as we are. We are terrible stewards, we deserve what happens to us as a group. It remains to individuals to figure out how to wage the current war humanely...or not.
