why am I denied
the pain of worry
the act of giving
the solace of holding
someone only for a moment
for that is all we have
sharing fears
sharing the dreams
we have if we survive them
don't we all mourn
sometimes for ourselves
sometimes for others
and don't we fear
always for ourselves
but sometimes for others
and the gift the fearless have
is to share their strength
the gift of the healthy
to bear the burden of the sick
but is it ungracious
to deny those who love you
the opportunity to prove it
do you do it because you love
and to protect me from sorrow
or does it mean you don't love
that you won't share tomorrow
I don't think it is right
to suffer in silence or alone
to force your lovers
to pretend it matters not
when joint health is crucial
For two hearts that are joined
stop beating at the same time
and if time is only moments
to take away some
hoarding them to yourself
when someone is there
wanting to laugh with you
even if it is only between tears
to lend you strength
to read you poems
and to get the wisdom
of those who bleed
from unhealed wounds
